World Day of Biolodigal Diversity 2008

-The Serres Club for UNESCO will honor the World Day of Biolodigal Diversity 2008 by presenting at Eleftheria Square an exhibition with the title “Biodiversity and Agriculture”. -Our planet is inhabited by an unthinkable number of different organisms. These have occupied every corner of the Earth and have adapted efficiently in the changes of the conditions of life by taking advantage of every available resource. Their survival depends upon three types of biological diversity: genetic biodiversity, biodiversity of the species and biodiversity of the environments.
Why is biodiversity useful? In reality It constitutes a safety net for life: the larger the diversity of organisms the bigger their capacity to adapt and exploit the -available energy resources.
Agriculture is an integral part of the life of every human given the fact that it provides us with the food, prime materials for the production of goods, such as cotton for clothing, wood for shelter and fuel, roots for medicine and many more. The challenge for the farmers has always been their capacity to manage agricultural systems and the environment in a sustainable manner in order to safeguard the natural resources and the provisions of the ecosystems for future generations.
